Succession Alliance and the CLA Partnership

The Succession Alliance is proud to be a trusted partner of the CLA, offering members specialist support to navigate the complex conversations around land, property and business succession.

Succession is rarely just a legal problem. At its heart, it's a family one.

For landowning families and rural businesses, succession is one of the most consequential decisions you will ever face — and one of the hardest. It's not just about who inherits what. It's about differing priorities, unspoken assumptions, and the weight of values that have often built up over generations.

Left too long, those conversations become harder. Relationships fracture. Decisions get made by default rather than by choice. By the time families seek help, the problems are often more entrenched — and more expensive — than they needed to be.

The Succession Alliance exists to help families have those conversations before it reaches that point.

Who is it for?

This service is for any CLA member facing questions of succession — whether that is a first conversation about the future of a farm or estate, a family that has been circling the issue for years without resolution, or a situation where relationships are already under strain. If you have land, a business or assets to pass on, and a family that needs to agree how, we can help.

How it works

Getting started is straightforward. Get in touch and one of the Succession Alliance team will arrange a free, confidential phone call to talk through your situation and explain how the process works. There is no obligation and no pressure. If you decide to go ahead, we will match you with one of our approved facilitators — all experienced in working with rural and landowning families — and arrange the meeting at a time and place that works for your family.

Our facilitators

The Succession Alliance works with a network of approved facilitators, including The Rural Consultant Ltd, Andy Guy Consulting, Saviour Associates, Family Charter, Jo Speed, Matt Swain, Real Success Ltd and Becky Miles. All facilitators are selected for their experience in working with farming and rural families, and their ability to hold a constructive space when conversations are difficult.
